Meet Richard Lara
Richard Lara, the son of Cuban exiles and a graduate of Coral Gables Senior High School, has proudly called Coral Gables his home since age 14. Richard earned a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Boston College Law School. Richard serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Spanish Broadcasting System, the largest publicly traded Hispanic media company in the U.S.
A dedicated community leader, Richard has contributed to the Coral Gables Anti-Crime Committee, mentors students in mock trials, and supports Alzheimer’s and autism care as Development Chair for Easterseals South Florida. He was named the 2022 General Counsel of the Year by the Daily Business Review.
Richard and his wife of 27 years, Bertha, are proud parents of three daughters. With family values at his core, Richard is committed to fostering civility, transparency, and accountability as a Coral Gables Commissioner, ensuring taxpayer dollars benefit the community and its residents.
